Golf Event Held In Memory of Former Hospital Employee
The public is invited to participate in a golf and barbecue dinner event on September 30, which will benefit the Radiology Department at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in memory of a former employee.
Mayor Marsha McLean Named L.A. President For League of California Cities
Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean was elected as President of the Los Angeles County Division of the League of California Cities in June, having previously served as Vice President, Secretary and as Treasurer in this division for the League.
Unitarian Universalists Of SCV Donate To Habitat for Humanity
The Unitarian Universalists (UUs) of SCV have chosen SFV/SCV Habitat for Humanity as the recipient of the August 19th special collection. The UUs have invited Joyce Grair, Community Outreach Director, to speak on that day. This organization prides itself on being a, “hand up,” rather than a “hand out.” Richard Galway of the organization reports that currently the focus is on a housing development in Pacoima, where they are poised to start the second phase.

The 24th Annual National Night Out, a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs Station and the City of Santa Clarita, will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff station.

The City of Santa Clarita continues to work on your behalf to make your travels easier. Currently, they are working on Phase Two of the 11 phases for these improvements. The anticipated completion of this phase is fall 2007.
Countering Cultureâs Negative Influences
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, audio and video stimuli will continue to dominate our lives and culture. Poker Tournament Charity Event To Fund Needs Of Cancer Patients
This month 150 poker enthusiasts will gather at the City of Santa Clarita’s Activities Center to compete in the card-playing sport gone wild around the world, Texas Hold ‘Em. For $125 per person, entrants will not only be engaged in a night of poker, food and drink, but their fee will benefit young people battling cancer who are in need of financial assistance.
Gemina Turns 21
Gemina, the crooked neck giraffe, is one of the Santa Barbara Zoo’s most recognizable and beloved animals. Though different than other giraffes, Gemina has lived a long and healthy life and has even been an inspiration to children with handicaps. The zoo celebrated Gemina’s 21st birthday on July 16 with more than 100 Zoo Campers serenading her with “Happy Birthday,” a giraffe-sized birthday card and a treat made of acacia – her favorite food.
Help Build a Bridge of Hope for an Innocent Child
Santa Clarita residents are invited to “Bridge of Hope,” a dinner hosted by ZOE Children’s Homes on October 11 at the Hyatt Valencia Grand Ballroom. ZOE is an international organization that was founded by longtime Santa Clarita residents Michael and Carol Hart in an effort to stop human trafficking of children.
Assemblyman Smyth Named Honorary Chair for Wine Auction
The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center is gearing up for this year’s Classic Wine Benefit Auction to be held on Saturday, October 6 at Le Chêne French Cuisine located at 122625 Sierra Highway from 11 am to 4 pm. This year will be the 16th annual of this highly successful event that supports The Center’s Home-Delivered Meals program and others to serve local seniors in need. Tickets are $60 each. The theme for this year’s event is “A Toast to Independence.”
Zonta Club of the Santa Clarita Valley – Advancing the Status of Women Locally and Worldwide
Zonta’s Red, White and Blueberry Breakfast at the 4th of July Parade in Newhall has been a hit for twelve years. The event, purchased this year by Don and Cheri Fleming, featured a table on the shady side of San Fernando Road in front of Canyon Theatre Guild for prime, upfront viewing of the annual parade activities.
