The Education Foundation of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce recently honored specially selected Teachers of the Year for their outstanding work in the field of education during the organization’s 21st annual Teacher Tribute Hats Off To You gala dinner, held this year at College of the Canyons’ Performing Arts Center.  Jim Backer, chairman of the Teacher Tribute lauded the teachers as being a vital force in the community.

The third largest men’s professional tennis tournament in Southern California recently celebrated its opening ceremony at the Paseo Club in Valencia. Moderating the event was Star 98.7’s radio personality, Sean Valentine — who later showcased his Tennis prowess on the courts during the pro-am festivities.

The Santa Clarita Symphony recently took music lovers on a Baroque trip back in time to circa 1772, during its innovative performance of An Evening at the Palace, the season’s first Theatrical Masterpiece Concert. 

College of the Canyons and the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the grand opening of the Small Business Development Center.

Flowers and recognition flowed freely at a recent Soroptimist ceremony honoring amazing volunteer work by 14 to 17-year-old girls in the Santa Clarita Valley.  The first, second and third place winners of the Violet Richardson awards were Sally Kim, Sage Swiatek and Iris Chang.  They were awarded $2000, $1500 and $1000 respectively.

Stressing the importance of continuing education, officials and dignitaries ushered in a new era for college students of all ages during groundbreaking ceremonies for College of the Canyons 110,000 square foot, $36-million University Center building set to be completed in late 2008.
