Sushi – All the Same… Not!
With the hot summer months about to hit Santa Clarita, the demand for Sushi increases tremendously and it is important to understand the true essence of quality sushi.
Most people are unaware that 95 percent of the sushi served in this valley (and throughout the United States) is pre-processed and frozen. Most sushi restaurants also use frozen Tuna, Salmon and other fish that has been artificially dyed and treated with color preservatives. Finally, numerous half-price, or all you can eat sushi restaurants use water-injected frozen fish that expands the cells of the sushi to make it look much larger and also seems more tender because of all the water content – making poor quality fish taste better and filling you up quicker.
Celebrate Americana
The Music Man brings a taste of Small Town, USA to life on the stage of the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons. Presented by the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre, this is a musical for the whole family. Young and old will enjoy this affectionate tribute to the small towns of America in a bygone era. Meredith Willson’s The Music Man follows a fast-talking traveling salesman as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a kids’ band which he promises to organize – despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.

Fish in a Taco?
A taco is a traditional Mexican dish composed of a corn or flour tortilla folded or rolled around a filling. A taco can be made with a variety of fillings, a local favorite being fish. The taco predates the arrival of Europeans in Mexico. Indigenous people living in the lake region of the Valley of Mexico ate tacos filled with small fish. The first “taco bash” in history was documented by none other than Bernal Diaz del Castillo.

A Guy’s Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita
Can you believe it? “I got dumped!” Again. This just goes to show that women are not the only ones that get dumped. Do you ever wonder why this happens? I have, and there are so many different reasons why this can happen. Sometimes it is very easy to explain. Then there are other times when you just don’t see it coming, and get blindsided. I have had a few of these, and I wanted to share one in particular. Some time ago I met this very nice lady, “of course.”
Food Is My Art…
If you’re like me when you go out to eat, you want it to be worth your while. When it comes to food, I look forward to eating places where I know there are people that put their heart into what they’re cooking. You can taste the difference in food that somebody made who chose the life of a cook because it is their life. It is what they know; it is what they are passionate about. A person who cooks only to earn a paycheck will never be able to make the same caliber food.

The trend of cupcakes continues to grow and nothing will truly take its place anytime soon, but there is another trend that is quickly becoming popular in the specialty bake shop mainstream, cake pops! Like cupcakes, cake pops are great as party favors, wedding favors and desserts, baby and wedding shower favors, corporate gifts and more. So why not complement your dessert with a take-home cake pop? With cake pops as your party favor, everyone gets to take home a “piece of cake.”

The Culinary Evolution to Small Plates or Individualized Servings
For several years, the biggest culinary trend in Europe and the major cities in the United States have been small plates or individual servings. While some restaurants gravitated toward the tapas style of serving appetizer size portions, the true culinary pioneers are taking a different approach of “individualizing” the serving sizes and giving customers complete flexibility to “design” their own dinner.
